The Nokia 5800, code-named “Tube,” is a Symbian OS v9.4 smartphone. It is an XpressMusic series phone, which emphasizes music and multimedia playback. There is a 3.2-inch display, smaller than the iPhone’s. But with a widescreen 640 x 360 pixel display and 30 frames-per-second playback and recording, the device provides high-quality video recording and playback. The handset features a 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens.
The Nokia 5800 offers web surfing with the usual 3G, HSDPA and wi-fi (Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g) connectivity just like iphone, but the sensitivity of the screen is not quite up to Apple’s sexy standard. There is an FM radio and powerful built-in stereo speakers.
One of the most interesting innovations is that the phone supports handwriting like Pocket Pc’s. As well as inputting your e-mail or message using the virtual alphanumeric keypad or the virtual computer-style QWERTY keyboard. For Nokia’s first attempt at a touchscreen, this was pretty impressive.
